We get into if the Watt extension is good business for the Steelers and Oneil Cruz impresses in Home Run Derby.
PM Team FULL Show 7-18-25
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark defended his take that the Steelers had a ‘perfect’ offseason. Mark said they, mostly, accomplished everything they wanted to do. Mark gave his reaction to the TJ Watt signing and how the Steelers avoided 4-5 guaranteed years. Mark looked at this deal versus the one Myles Garrett received from the Browns. Mark thinks the Steelers can get ahead of things this season with Watt, even though he doesn’t think a holdout would have impacted Watt’s production. Mark said moving Watt around on defense will be a key to furthering his longevity. More w/ Mark – Mark believes the TJ Watt ankle injury was worse than what we were hearing late in the season, which impacted him heavily down the stretch. The conversation again went to Watt moving around the defense and how that could lead to a big 2025. Mark doesn’t care for the narrative that Watt isn’t healthy enough because he’s only missed significant time in one season. More w/ Mark – After the ‘perfect’ offseason, Mark gave some of his expectations for the season. Will we see a few key players take a step up on the defensive side? Mark still has questions, but likes the talent a lot on the outside. Mark doesn’t think Omar Khan is done making moves and still believes safety will be addressed.…

Mark Kaboly said that the Steelers had the “perfect offseason”, to which Mullsy disagrees. Mullsy says the offseason can’t be perfect if the Vegas win total of 8.5 hasn’t moved at all. If Aaron Rodgers was still MVP caliber, he would not have been available for cheap. A lot of things have to go right for the Steelers to be “significantly better”. Poni was upset that he didn’t hear from his sources about the TJ extension before it was announced. Mullsy thinks the Steelers QB play will be better than last year, and he’s hoping that Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu will both be good. Donny Football Debrief – Lloyd Howell Jr, executive director of the NFLPA, resigned last night after charging the NFLPA with two strip club visits. He called them player engagement events. The guys discuss what would happen if they suggested something like this at The Fan.…

TJ Watt has signed his extension with the Steelers. One of the biggest radio hosts in America thinks it’s more of the same from the Steelers – spending on defense, scraps on offense. Chris agreed. He pointed out that the Eagles spend so little on their defense and they are the best-run team in the league. When can the Steelers flip that narrative? Colin Cowherd thinks TJ Watt is worth the money, but not a fan of the deal from the Steelers perspective. Mullsy says that the Steelers have not been spending money on offense because they don’t draft anybody that’s worth paying. Mullsy also says Tomlin is most at fault for the QB situations going south. Former MLB Pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Clement says that Oneil Cruz did his job in the home run derby, that job being to entertain. He also says that he hopes that MLB does not move to a swing-off format for regular season games. Matt says that the job that has to be done at the trade deadline is not an easy one for Ben Cherington. Matt says that if it were up to him, he would trade David Bednar.…

Mullsy and Donny discuss the TJ Watt extension more thoroughly.
PM Team FULL Show 7-17-25
Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray gave his initial reaction to TJ Watt signing his extension with the Steelers. Chris asked about the Steelers scope always being about making it look like they got the better end of the deal. Ray said this is about betting on a player you have known since 2017. Ray brought up JJ Watt breaking down a bit around this age, but he explained why this only locks the team in until TJ is about 34.…

Chris and Donny react to a 3-year extension for Watt
Chris reacted to a quote from Noah Hiles last night, stating that the Pirates will be ‘aggressive’ and ‘make a lot of moves’ at this year’s trade deadline. Do we want the Pirates to make noise at the deadline? We aren’t very comfortable with Ben Cherington making many significant moves. The players on expiring deals should be as good as gone, but what about the big-names like Mitch Keller? We reminisced about some disastrous trades in the Cherington era so far when it comes to the Pirates selling off bigger names.…
