This weekend we count down Peppermint, who we celebrated on his birthday this week. Nelson D. Harrison, Jr., was born on July 17, 1925, in Texarkana, Texas. He moved to Houston and began his career playing local clubs. Nelson invented his stage name "Peppermint" in response to the success of other local friends and performers with nicknames like Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and Sam "Lightnin'" Hopkins. Lightnin’ helped him get his first chance to record in 1947 in Houston. Harris later recorded in Shreveport, and worked in Sacramento, Claifornia and in New Jersey, before recording his final album in 1995. He passed in 1999, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Now, let’s start the count down!
