Ep 56. - St. George Brewing Company's Brewmaster, Andy Rathman - 3/6/21
Manage episode 286913749 series 2658317
Andy Rathman has been the Brewmaster at The St. George Brewing Company, the second oldest microbrewery in VA, since 1999. In the early days of his brewing career, he held multiple apprenticeships in Germany, traveling from brewery to brewery with his dog and his van, before attending the Master Brewers program at UC Davis and becoming a Master Brewer in England.
In this episode, we chatted with Andy about his extensive pedigree, how he selects the ingredients that are used in his beer, and how he prefers not to deviate from the four main ingredients of hops, malt, yeast, and water. We also discussed what makes an English Ale different from a German Ale, and how the terroir of specific regions influences the final flavor profile of the beer.
