Manage episode 321787227 series 3270831
In this episode Dr. Wightman discusses the discipline required for elite competitors prepare when there are no competitions scheduled. Champion coaches and players have told Dr. Wightman that preparing should be more challenging then any competition. When you practice with purpose you are separating yourself from your competition. Seattle Seahawks, NFL QB Russell Wilson has been quoted to say, "The separation, is in the preparation!" and yet when he said that I don't believe there was a pandemic influencing where and when you could prepare.
Coach Wightman interviews 65 year old retired forest ranger triathlete Sharie Methven for a mature perspective on what diligence and discipline is required to maintain a training regiment when you are not sure when the next competition will arrive. At the core of Sharie's motivation is her love for Hawaii and the surroundings she offered to train in. She also admits that when there is a competition it is rewarding to meet and compete with athletes from all over the world. Sharie also agrees that preparing and competing on my home turf is a preparation advantage other competitors do not have. She reminds Dr. Wightman that all oceans and shorelines are not the same, but one thing is true for all discipline is required to become an elite preformer.
