In May 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) went on strike in a dispute over pay, working conditions, and the use of artificial intelligence. The strike brought Hollywood to a standstill, with production on new TV shows and movies halted.
