In this episode, we're uncovering the true source of our thoughts.
If you have kids, you’ve probably seen the Disney movie Inside Out - which visualizes the little chemicals that influence how we feel and act - nothing better than Lewis Black as Anger.
There’s some truth to how that works, and we’re wrapping up our week on mindset with some of those chemicals that affect our brain and why we do the things we do.
Here’s a breakdown of 3 neurotransmitters that silently drive our brain:
Dopamine - the chemical of more. It fuels anticipatory desires and motivates us to strive for better tomorrows. But too much leads to hedonic adaptation, where nothing feels enough.
Serotonin - the molecule of “respect”. It enhances our mood, memory, and ability to adapt to change. Boost serotonin with tryptophan-rich foods like turkey, chicken, blueberries, and pumpkin seeds.
GABA - the molecule of calm. It neutralizes excess dopamine and adrenaline, promoting relaxation. Find GABA in green tea and Vitamin B6-rich foods like salmon, chickpeas, potatoes, and bananas.
Remember, balance is key. Tune into what your brain needs and nurture it naturally for optimal health.
