USP Coleman is a high-security federal facility that houses numerous notorious criminals, including international terrorists, high-profile drug and arms dealers, and other repeat offenders.
WASHINGTON, D.C.: The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) created a task force to root out contraband and misconduct in the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP).
Washington, DC Corrections Information Council (CIC) and their inspection of Coleman. Good information is provided on BOP Facilities that house DC Residents—but Benefit All.

· April 25, 2024, FCI Coleman Medium & Low

· They inspect, monitor, and report on the conditions of confinement in correctional facilities

· Before the onsite inspection, the CIC contacted all DC Code offenders via mail to inform them about the CIC’s upcoming inspection and the opportunity for a confidential interview with CIC staff.

· The major issues noted are the number of lockdowns, the lack of available programming, and the

lack of access to medical care.

· likely due to the overpopulation and understaffing

· They’re operating at an average of 135.2% of the rated capacity for the last year.

· FCI Coleman Medium is a Medical, Care Level 3.

· They need to hire more medical staff to achieve a lower ratio. There is now one medical provider for every 250-700 AIC.
