Tara Lee Rodas started working at the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) full of enthusiasm for assisting migrant children that arrived in the United States without their parents. However, when she realized some officials were colluding with criminal gangs to have them sponsor the children she reported that and was dismissed. As an HHS whistleblower, Rodas has spread the tragic reality of the US program: Unaccompanied Children Released to Sponsors. In April 2023, for instance, she gave her testimony at a House hearing: “The Biden Border Crisis: Exploitation of Unaccompanied Alien Children.” In this podcast episode, Rodas explains that the HHS has the records with the names of the children and the corresponding sponsors. HHS officials can follow up and identify the endangered children. Nevertheless, she reveals there is a lack of political will.
