In this powerful and deeply moving episode, Claudia D. shares her courageous journey from the grips of alcoholism to the freedom of recovery. When I first met Claudia, she was a quiet observer at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, but that changed when she asked me to sponsor her.

Claudia’s story goes beyond recovery from alcohol; it’s a tale of resilience against manipulation and abuse. While AA offers a life-saving solution to alcoholism, Claudia bravely sheds light on a darker side—the predators who exploit vulnerable members in the program. She recounts her experience with an online group (originally it was called The Joy of Living out of Texas, but eventually that group would kick this predator out. Sadly he just started another online hunting ground called..), “A New Happiness,” run by a manipulative individual by the name of Richard and his enablers, and her ultimate triumph over their toxic influence.

Through her faith in a higher power and the principles of AA, Claudia not only found recovery from the disease of alcoholism but also reclaimed her life from the grips of deceit and control of a sick man.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone seeking hope, healing, and a reminder of the strength it takes to overcome not only addiction but the harmful actions of others.

If you or anyone you know in A.A. is getting mixed messages remember some of our famous slogans "secrets keep us sick". Alcoholics Anonymous has amazing resources on the world service website www.aa.org where you can find a helpful pamphlet on What Sponsorship is and ISN'T. If a sponsor tells you to keep something secret, that's a sign something is wrong, trust your gut, speak up, change sponsors and find another group. And remember that Anonymity is not a cloak that covers unsafe or illegal behaviour, read the aa Safety Card for more info.
