As a child, she broke open rocks, eager to "see the atoms inside." As a young adult, she witnessed her aunt's painful battle with breast cancer, sparking a determination to create life-saving solutions. Today, as an MIT researcher, she has developed an innovative ultrasound-enabled bra, set to revolutionize breast cancer screenings and empower women to take charge of their health.

Dr. Canan Dağdeviren is an Assistant Professor and leader of the Conformable Decoders research group at the MIT Media Lab, where she develops adaptive biomedical devices to decode patterns in nature and the human body. Her groundbreaking innovations have landed her on the "Top 35 Innovators Under 35" by MIT Technology Review and a Falling Walls Science Summit winner in 2024. Dr. Dagdeviren’s research combines materials science, energy harvesting, and translational medicine to address pressing challenges in healthcare, such as neurological disorders and breast cancer detection.

Jim and Dr. Dağdeviren discuss the societal impact of her work, the role of AI in medical diagnostics, and the importance of equitable access to healthcare innovations.
