In this episode I have the pleasure of speaking with Durango High School students from DHS Troupe 1096 of the theatre department which recently put on a hugely successful production of Hadestown in April. Sheri, Donovan, Lindsi, Sofia, Angel, Rhen, Violet and Noah who each plays a key role in the troupe, both on and off stage join me to talk about the recent production of Hadestown which received the most nominations in the state—12 total. This was adjudicated by the Bobby G Awards, Colorado’s regional high school musical theatre program that recognizes outstanding performances and serves as a gateway to the Jimmy Awards, so they’ll be heading to Denver on May 14th and 15th for the awards ceremony. They’re currently fundraising for the International Thespian Conference at Indiana University in June in Bloomington, Indiana—an annual event where high school theatre students and educators from around the world come together to perform, learn, and grow through workshops and showcases. DHS Troupe 1096 recently brought a One-Act to the state-level version of this conference and won, earning the opportunity to perform it at the international level. We talk about the exciting May 9th showcase and fundraiser, where they’ll perform a scene from Hadestown (as featured at the Bobby G's) and their award-winning one-act before taking it to the International Thespian Conference. Don’t miss Troupe 1096's Senior Showcase and Nationals Fundraiser this Friday May 9th! Tickets are $25, and the showcase features award-winning Colorado-state thespians as well as Never Swim Alone, the winner of the 2024 Colorado Critics Choice Chapter Select One-Act Competition.
