In this special episode of The G Code with ADRI.V, I had the incredible honor of sitting down with the legendary MC Lyte ahead of her visit to Buffalo. From being the first solo female rapper to release a full-length album, to expanding her impact into acting, voiceover work, and advocacy—MC Lyte is a true trailblazer who continues to evolve and inspire.

We talked about her journey in the music industry, the creative process behind her new album 1 of 1, and the powerful reasons behind her commitment to giving back through platforms like the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation. Of course, she dropped plenty of G Codes—especially for female artists and those navigating the entertainment world.

And yes, I had a total fangirl moment (because how could I not?!), but this episode was filled with gems, real talk, and moments that reminded me why I fell in love with hip-hop in the first place.

This episode is also dedicated to Mental Health Awareness Month and brought to you by BestSelf Behavioral Health and the Black Mental Health Response Team. If you’re in need of support, please reach out:
