The Devil in tarot, not to be confused with the devil of religion, represents a complex array of meanings tied to the material world and our experiences within it. It symbolises the notions of seniority, expertise, manifestation, and the challenges of material and societal constraints. Associated with Capricorn and ruled by Saturn, this card delves into the themes of discipline, determination, and the trials we face in the pursuit of competence and success. It also reflects on the limitations, both self-imposed and external, that can lead to feelings of stagnation or oppression. In this active imagination exercise, we will confront the symbolic 'Devil' within us, examining our attachments to materialism, traditional structures, and the rigidity that may hinder our growth.

Active Imagination is a technique developed by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung for engaging with the unconscious mind. Jung considered Active Imagination to be the most powerful way to access the unconscious mind and a vital technique for attaining wholeness of personality.
