Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for May 31st. Let’s talk about something that’s as powerful as caffeine, but won’t stain your teeth or make your hands shake — your thoughts.
Today is What You Think Upon Grows Day, a lesser-known holiday with a name that sounds like it could’ve come from a self-help book written by a very wise gardener. The idea behind it is beautifully simple: the thoughts you nurture, the ones you revisit and dwell on, are the ones that shape your reality. It’s like mental fertilizer — you can grow a beautiful rose bush, or a whole patch of weeds, depending on what you’re feeding... or thinking. This holiday is all about mindfulness — being aware of your mental landscape and choosing to plant seeds that lead to growth, joy, and maybe even a little inner peace… instead of frustration over why the Wi-Fi is always slow during Zoom calls. And with that in mind, let’s move to our quote of the day — a perfect pairing for this idea from Henry Ford, who once said...
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't – you're right.”
Now, Henry Ford might be remembered for revolutionizing the auto industry, but this quote reminds us he also knew a thing or two about how the human mind works. If you wake up thinking, “I can’t do this,” then congratulations — you’ve already fulfilled the prophecy. But if you choose to think, “I’ve got this,” you’re giving yourself permission to grow, to try, and maybe even succeed. Either way, your thoughts are running the show.
So today, on What You Think Upon Grows Day, try a little experiment. Notice your thoughts. When something stressful pops up, give yourself a second to reframe it. You don’t need to slap a motivational poster over every bad moment, but even the smallest shift — from “I hate this” to “This is tough, but I can handle it” — can change the way your day unfolds. Remember, your mind is your garden — don’t let the weeds win.
And that's going to do it for today. But if you want more there are 518 Daily Quote Episodes before this one, so browse around and listen to the ones you like. I'm Andrew McGivern signing off for now and I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station with another Daily Quote.
