Wallaceburg is gearing up for an electrifying day as the annual Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival makes its return. The event, known for its blend of teamwork, competition and community spirit, will see paddlers take to the water in a test of strength and coordination. Races are set to kick off on Saturday, June 7 at 8 a.m. with an anticipated finish around 3:40 p.m. Teams will compete in a series of thrilling matchups, each one a display of determination and camaraderie. This year, an exciting new feature will be added to the festivities—a dragon boat tug-of-war, bringing an extra layer of strategy and endurance to the competition. The event will take place at Branch 18 of the Wallaceburg Legion, providing a welcoming setting for both participants and spectators to enjoy the day. Event coordinator Mike Powell recently sat down with Sydenham Current to discuss what’s in store for this year’s festival.
