36. Womanist Bioethics, Ethics and the Future of Healthcare with Dr. Wylin Wilson
Manage episode 486935090 series 3563612
Dr. Wilson is a leading scholar and creator of Womanist Bioethics, a groundbreaking framework that confronts how traditional bioethics has failed Black women. At its core, Womanist Bioethics centers the lived experiences of Black women, who, across nearly every health indicator, suffer and die at higher rates not because of biology, but because of systemic devaluation. Dr. Wilson calls this what it is: not a gap in care, but a failure of justice. Rooted in the Black Christian prophetic tradition and drawing on womanist and liberation theology, her work challenges the white, male-centered foundations of medicine. It offers a bold reimagining of what ethical, inclusive care should look like. In this episode, we talk about the importance of truth-telling, the role of faith communities in public health, and how we can all be agents of healing.
