100 years ago, back in the 1920s, Earl Gresh & His Gangplank Orchestra was the biggest musical sensation in the St. Petersburg area, as he played at the popular nightclub and speakeasy "The Gangplank". Touring over radio and stage, and 100 years ago on June 30th, 1925, they made their first record for Columbia Records.
100 years later, Sunshine 96.7 RadioStPete presented an hour-long documentary tracing the career of Gresh's orchestra. Complete with all of the band's recordings, as well as interviews by the Gresh family, the business that is now where the Gangplank was, called the Jungle Prada Tavern, AND that of Sesh St. Pete, which was formerly Earl Gresh's Wood Parade, a tourist attraction Earl ran in the 40s-50s.
Hosted by music historian Chase Porter along with Earl Gresh's distant cousin, Jackson Gresh. who has painstakingly remastered all of the Gangplank orchestra's recordings you will hear!
