Mahatma Gandhi influenced many - both Indian and foreign, but his biggest impact on bollywood might be due to a Polish engineer, who moved to India and created one of the greatest social experiments in pre-Independence India. This became the biggest inspiration for V Shantaram's 1957 blockbuster and a song that still echoes in our ears as a prayer song, sung by none other than Smt. Lata Mangeshkar. It is said that this social experiment might have influenced Kiran Bedi and her reforms at Tihar Prison.

What is the story? Let's find out.
