To discuss what’s being done to assist municipalities in preparing for and managing these climate risks, Crystal Orderson is joined by Cllr Mluleki Nkosi, Chairperson of the Emergency Services and Disaster Management Working Group at SALGA—the South African Local Government Association. SALGA has been working with municipalities to integrate climate adaptation into their planning frameworks, lobby for additional funding, and build technical capacity. Cllr Nkosi unpacks the current gaps, what’s at stake, and how local government must evolve to protect both people and infrastructure.
