Microsoft just flipped the switch on AI and it’s no longer optional.

In June 2025, Microsoft announced an internal policy requiring employees to use AI tools daily, from GitHub Copilot to internal workflow automation, marking a seismic shift in how the tech giant approaches AI within its workforce. Starting next year, your AI usage could be part of your performance review if you work at Microsoft, with potential impacts on your bonuses, career progression, and even job security.

In this episode, I break down:

  • Why Microsoft made AI use mandatory (and what it means for employees)
  • How performance reviews will now include AI usage metrics
  • The broader trend as Shopify, Duolingo, and Box adopt similar policies
  • The cultural shift making AI literacy as essential as communication and collaboration
  • The risks for employees who don’t adapt to an AI-driven workplace
