Recruit Reflections - Leah Fontaine (Georgetown University)
Manage episode 491683150 series 2645793
We’re back with another Recruit Reflection, and we’re especially excited about this one because it’s the first time we’re featuring someone who went through the recruiting process but ultimately decided to step away from gymnastics to focus on academics. This week, we’re joined by Leah Fontaine, a member of the Class of 2025 from Capital Gymnastics. Fontaine was a Level 10 gymnast for six years and spent time on the elite track during her younger years. She had dreamed of competing in college gymnastics for as long as she could remember and took six official visits when the recruiting period began. However, around that time, she began dealing with an ankle injury and faced the challenge of recovering while maintaining the interest of college coaches. After much reflection, she made the difficult decision to walk away from the sport to focus on her future. Georgetown University was one of the schools Fontaine had been interested in, although it doesn’t have a gymnastics program. She was only able to consider it seriously after stepping away from gymnastics. Since leaving club gymnastics, she has embraced new opportunities — including starting a nonprofit organization and participating in high school gymnastics during her senior year. Now preparing to start her college journey at Georgetown this fall, Fontaine joins us to reflect on her unique recruiting experience and what lies ahead.
