This is Ken Ham, author of the book on death and suffering, Divine Dilemma.

When God looked at all he made, he said it was “very good.” Now, many Christians believe earth is millions of years old. If this is true, the fossil record shows millions of years of death, suffering, and animals eating each other. Would God look at a creation full of death and call it “very good”? No!

Death is the penalty for sin. It’s “the last enemy” and Jesus came to die on the cross to take this penalty for us. A good God certainly wouldn’t call the punishment for sin “very good.” And if death isn’t the penalty for sin, why did Jesus need to come?

Death before sin undermines God’s character and the gospel!
