This week we review the 2024 American biographical musical drama film A Complete Unknown directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jay Cocks, about American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan.

Based on the 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric! by Elijah Wald, the film portrays Dylan through his earliest folk music success until the momentous controversy over his use of electric instruments at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

Timothée Chalamet (who also produces) stars as Dylan, with Edward Norton, Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaroy in supporting roles.

The film's title is derived from the chorus of Dylan's 1965 single "Like a Rolling Stone".

It's a little long but worth a watch if you love this type of music.

It is not often we review a current movie released just a few weeks ago. The film earned eight nominations at the 97th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Chalamet, Best Supporting Actor for Norton and Best Supporting Actress for Barbaro. To be held on the 3rd March 2025.

The Aussie bursts into song at the end of the podcast and the Scotsman joins him. It's painful and indulgent.
