Takeaways from Sam Strickland's book ‘They Don’t Behave for Me’
Manage episode 375440170 series 3442826
This episode is the first of the new monthly education book of the month series. Each month I pick one education book that I feel listeners would really benefit from, and give some takeaways for listeners to implement.
In this fifteen minute talk, I give some key takeaways from Sam Strickland's excellent ‘They Don’t Behave for Me’ 50 classroom behaviour scenarios to support secondary phase teachers.'
I explore three of the scenarios that Sam writes about in the book, summarising some of Sam's ideas about what you can do to improve the situation:
1. How do you manage low-level disruptions in your classroom?
2. What can you do if your lessons are starting off without any focus, and with poor behaviour.
3. What can you do if your language is overly negative in your classroom?
Sam's book is really excellent and is so helpful at the start of an academic year, to start to proactively plan for how to manage behaviour. It is available here.
