One of the most unfortunate things to witness is a prominent Christian figure very publicly falling into sin, and then dealing with the inevitable fallout that comes afterward. When these types of situations happen, the natural tendency is to ask "How in the world did things get to this point?" Rest assured, it didn't happen overnight--many times, moral failures are the result of thousands of tiny compromises, the cumulative effect of steadily drifting away from fellowship with God for weeks, months, and maybe even years on end.
