BECMIE/RoC: sense of wonder conveyed from the cover of the little booklets
1e: level limits for non-human races, SAVE or DIE!!!!, lots of new spells
2e: specialty priests, Monstrous manual was in color (and liked the 3 ring binder approach)
3.x: ascending AC, actually got to use miniatures and maps in a meaningful way
4e: Very simple to learn 5e: cut out the majority of the build game, kept D&D core so easy to play, better for beginners
