Working in science exposes you to people from very different backgrounds. Although many of us enjoy this attribute of the profession, cultural expectations from mentor and mentee may differ. Today I will perform a deep dive in an incredible manuscript authored by Obara, et al., that investigated the influence of national culture o mentoring relationships in Japan. I provide perspectives from my own career, and discuss some of the excerpts of their participants. If you would like to read the paper yourself, the is the Pubmed ID: PMID: 34034712; PMCID: PMC8152319
