On June 25th 2025, in collaboration with Open Folk, we presented our first ever live interview event in Los Angeles. As Open Folk put it: "In These Lines is a live event where three artists each bring one song — not just to perform, but to explore. They sit down with Sofia Loporcaro, host of Before The Chorus, to talk about where the song came from, what it meant to write it, and what it still holds. Then they play it. Just the song, and the truth behind it." Hosted by award-winning interviewer Sofia Loporcaro, Before the Chorus explores the genuine human experiences behind the music. Sofia’s deep knowledge of music and personal journey with mental health help her connect with artists on a meaningful level. This is a space where fans connect with artists, and listeners from all walks of life feel seen through the stories that shape the music we love. About the host: Sofia Loporcaro is an award-winning interviewer and radio host who’s spent over 8 years helping musicians share their stories. Penny chats to Tim Meadows-Smith, an Enterprisation Architect, with Multiple Non-Executive Director and Chairman roles. Tim is a Champion of StartUp Suffolk and Investment Partner at K2 Business Partners and saves businesses by making them work productively. As Tim says, "Exceptional, positive, tenacious, problem-solving people should be joyous, not trapped, and not failing. We don’t have a distressed business turnaround industry, we have a liquidation industry, and it’s wrong." During this chat, Tim and Penny discuss: - the startup culture that leaves great people stranded for want of honest conversations and some support in spreading the relatively simple processes which sustain enterprise. - how people hope, intend, to found a business to do things better, but usually create a job with a terrible boss, and it really doesn’t have to be that way. - why the most common sign of a business that is on the road to going bust is agreeing to invoice finance, of factoring. Giving up most of your margin to get money in a bit sooner. Tim explains how if he can get to businesses first he can help them get out of the arrangement and on a sustainable footing. They think they want money, which is like a drug, they actually need process and strategy to build enterprise. Instead of liquidation, keeping unsecured creditors tied to assets gives a strong chance of recovery, rather than a domino-effect of misery. Penny chats to Peter Stansbury, an Exitologist – helping founders build their business and achieve their exit goals. In this engaging conversation, Penny explored with Peter the aspects of exit planning that many founders overlook. Peter shared how successful exits address both the hard business metrics - valuation, timing, deal structure - and the deeply personal elements that often catch entrepreneurs off guard. They discussed how founders frequently struggle with identity loss after selling their companies, the challenge of letting go of day-to-day control, and not understanding what 'success' truly means beyond just financial returns. Peter emphasised how exit planning should begin years before the actual sale, to maximise business value, and prepare founders life after exit. The conversation revealed the importance of clarity on personal goals, family considerations, and legacy aspirations, allowing them to effectively define the next chapter of their lives. In this chat Penny Power OBE and Geoff Sober discussed why it is so difficult for people to change when they want to change. People are surrounded by personal growth memes, books and courses on self-development abound and yet many struggle to know what they want or if they know what they want then they put up barriers to the attainment of their goal. Geoff believes atychiphobia – the fear of failure- is the unrecognised block holding many people back and Geoff’s purpose is to release this destructive pattern. Geoff is an expert in this pattern because he lived for much of his early life in fear of failure and has spent most of his life overturning the patterns taught by his family in early childhood. Hence this is not a job, nor a business, it is a heartfelt mission.
