Tania Whitfield, a Chicago native who has been living in the Ohio River Valley for a significant period, brings a wealth of experience and insight to the podcast. As a survivor of domestic violence and an active member of various community organizations, including Step by Step and Greenhouse 17, Tania's journey is a testament to resilience and empowerment. Her deep involvement in the Black Appalachian community, coupled with her dedication to oral history and cultural memory, underscores her commitment to positive change and personal growth. With a profound understanding of the impact of family legacy on individual development, Tania offers invaluable perspectives on embracing authenticity and overcoming adversity.

The mission of the Black Appalachian Coalition (BLAC) is to build a multi-state campaign that amplifies black voices, dismantles the colonized narrative of Appalachia, and uses story-based strategies and solutions that center the voices and lived experiences of Black Appalachians.
