In this episode, Josh and Aaron interview Dr. Rachel Whitaker, a microbiologist at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who works primarily on archaea.

Dr. Whitaker has been a faculty member at UIUC since 2006 and has worked as both a researcher and lecturer. She is widely recognized for her teaching excellence and is active outside of research with several outreach programs, namely Project Microbe and the Cena y Ciencias program. She also co-directs the Microbial Diversity Course at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woodshole, MA. She frequently advocates for increasing visibility for women in science and was a contributing author to the compilation book titled “Women in Microbiology.”
