Trump and Musk and their enablers and acolytes are busy dismantling the entire American system of government. As the US hurtles towards a constitutional crisis, with the Trump administration preparing the ground to ignore the rulings of courts (which they are already doing in certain cases), what can be done to resist? Jim and Chris discuss this question. It is not surprising that they find the Democratic Party wanting in the face of this crisis. It is not only that they seem to be unable to adopt the kind of 'throw sand in the gears' tactics honed by Mitch McConnell, even though the Democrats are not merely facing a policy agenda they don't like but the dismantling of democracy, but that their whole platform of 'let's put the system back together again' fails to resonate because the system is so broken that it led to Trump being elected twice. Jim and Chris discuss the idea of using this moment to advocate for a new settlement between government and people, a radical response adequate to the magnitude of the moment.
