Sermon: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Scripture: John 14:15-17 (NIV) "If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you."

“On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.”

Acts 1:4 NIV

Introduction: God the Father never ever breaks a promise!

Point 1: The Advocate We Need

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—” -John 14:16 NIV Jesus promises the Holy Spirit as our "advocate" or "helper."

Point 2: God Within Us

“the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” -John 14:17 NIV

Point 3: A Promise for All Believers

Acts 2:38-39 "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."

Conclusion: Today, receive the promised Holy Spirit.
