What Really Happened to the Franklin's Lost Expedition
Manage episode 478536949 series 2914294
Back in 1845, Sir John Franklin set out with two ships, the HMS Erebus and the HMS Terror, to find the Northwest Passage. They vanished without a trace, sparking one of history's great maritime puzzles. For years, theories swirled, from scurvy to lead poisoning, but the truth remained elusive. It wasn't until recent expeditions and archaeological findings that we learned about the harsh Arctic conditions, lead contamination from canned food, and the desperate struggle for survival that likely led to their demise. It's a sobering reminder of the perils faced by explorers in uncharted territories.
