Mark Heathco was born and raised in North Hollywood, California, went to North Hollywood High school, and played football for the North Hollywood Huskies In 1978. He joined the Army and went to Basic and advanced training at Fort Benning. Upon completion, his assignment was to South Korea, where he served in the 2ND Infantry Division from 1978 to 1991 with nine rotations to the Demilitarized Z or the DMZ. He had 385 patrols inside the DMZ. Mark now resides in Xenia, Ohio, with his family and writes books about his encounters with the North Koreans inside the DMZ, the U.S. Sector.
