Chinese scientists have developed a new bio-based nanocomposite that offers a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. This material, detailed in Nano-Micro Letters, boasts superior mechanical properties, including strength and toughness, along with improved resistance to UV light, solvents, and gases. Furthermore, the nanocomposite demonstrates excellent reprocessability, retaining much of its strength after multiple recycling cycles. By using a unique method of wrapping carbon nanotube fibres with 2D nanosheets, the researchers achieved enhanced material performance. This innovation presents a promising, eco-friendly solution for various packaging and engineering applications, contributing to carbon neutrality efforts.
