Growing up in a farmworker family in Mattawa, Washington, Jose Iñiguez became enamored with opera. He dreamed of one day becoming an opera singer in spite of his father’s misgivings. Today he is living his dream and heading up Encanto Arts, a non-profit that promotes the arts in underserved rural communities. Iñiguez joins the Chino Y Chicano to talk about his unconventional approach to become an opera singer and teaching artist with the Seattle Opera as well as earning his father’s praise.
