A week or so after Larry Wessels graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Advertising he was supernaturally "born again" (see John 3:3-8, Titus 3:5-7, John 6:44, 63, 65, Romans 8:1-17, etc.) by the power of the Holy Spirit on the night of May 16, 1981 while he was reading 2 Timothy 3:1-5, "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." Although Larry desperately tried while reading this passage to deny he was the one being described here he was powerfully convicted by the Spirit of God Who fell on him as he read verse 5 & Larry there was totally convicted of his sins and fell on his knees & cried out to Jesus to save him which Jesus did. From then on Larry passionately devoted himself to Bible study. The Bible suddenly became alive to Larry with much understanding that he had never had before.
