A China Forum Expert and associate professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University Law School, Mr. Gu Bin, suggests BRI should set a green example by stopping financing new coal power. He is of the view that banning coal is consistent with China’s pledge of carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 and the new phase of constructing high-quality, clean and green BRI. If BRI makes coal-free commitments, it may contribute to the Paris Agreement and thus improve its own reputation.
