Dr. Amin Madani is the director of the Surgical AI Research Academy (SARA) at the University Health Network (UHN). He is an endocrine and acute care surgeon at UHN and assistant professor of surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Madani talked to us and showed us some of the work he is doing on AI in surgery and in particular on computer vision. He really breaks down for us the terms AI, machine learning, and data science, and highlighted some of the promise and challenges for AI in surgery.
