John Register is a true example of resilience. A combat Army veteran and two-time U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier in the hurdles, John’s life changed forever after a traumatic misstep resulted in the loss of his left leg—ending both his Olympic dreams and military career. But through his own reckoning, revision, and renewal, John redefined what it means to be resilient.
Since his amputation, John has gone on to win a silver medal at the Sydney Paralympic Games and has inspired thousands worldwide to "amputate" whatever stands in the way of realizing their true potential. He also founded the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s Paralympic Military Sports Program, helping veterans use sport as a tool for healing and recovery.
