Today, I sit down solo to reflect on a personal milestone—two years since I left the U.S. Navy. This episode isn't about bashing the military, but rather a raw and honest conversation about my experience, what I wish I'd known beforehand, and the conversations I’ve had with fellow veterans and active duty members. I talk about the circumstances that led to me joining at 17, how my parents influenced that decision, and the harsh reality of being promised benefits and opportunities that didn’t always materialize.

I walk through the misinformation I faced from recruiters, the pressure to accept a “top job” that pleased others, and the reality of being a nuclear operator—comparing that against other military roles that offered the same benefits with significantly less stress. I also talk about how some of the best leaders I encountered were often the lowest-ranking individuals who cared more about people than promotion.

Reflecting on the past few years, I share stories of close friends struggling to transition to civilian life, the pitfalls of not doing proper research before enlisting, and why I believe it’s time for a mentorship movement led by veterans for future service members. This conversation is a call for reform, awareness, and honest dialogue for anyone considering military service. Whether you're active duty, a veteran, or a civilian, this one is for you.
