Episode 29-2: Learning by Doing: How Experiential Learning Shapes Better Dads
Manage episode 485404041 series 3612521
This week’s Dad Life episode is all about Experiential Learning—what it is, why it matters, and how it’s helping us become better dads while teaching our kids valuable life skills along the way.
So… what is Experiential Learning?
It’s all about learning through direct experience—not just watching or reading about something, but actually doing it. Whether it’s fixing something around the house, cooking a meal, or managing emotions, these real-world moments create long-lasting lessons.
We share how this hands-on approach is helping our kids grow in confidence, independence, and problem-solving—and how it’s also teaching us to be more present and patient as fathers.
Here are two simple ways any dad can use experiential learning:
- 🛠️ DIY Projects Together – Get your child involved in fixing something at home. Let them use a screwdriver or help measure something. It teaches practical skills and builds confidence.
- 🧁 Cooking a Meal Side-by-Side – From reading a recipe to prepping ingredients, it’s a fun and meaningful way to learn math, planning, and responsibility—all while making memories.
Tune in for laughs, real talk, and ideas you can take into your own home in Episode 29-2 of DX!
