"We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” - Albert Einstein

Changing our Minds

How do we change our mind? While some might experiment with psychedelics, changing the way we think is merely a shift of cognitive behavior, through therapy of sorts. Daily, we encounter much cognitive dissonance: noise that interrupts perhaps good intentions. Change of mindset is happening not only in individuals and in the leadership of organizations across the country, changing up ‘me for we’, and reorienting mission statements toward those with real purpose in mind. Purpose-driven. Accelerating that shift requires some learning, some exposure to others practices, some experimentation and a leveling of egos. We’re shifting away from an authoritarian command and control system to one that is human-centered.

As we know, the human race is somewhat hesitant toward change. Yet research shows that Americans are shifting this perspective on climate due to their own experiences, a more serious view of the situation and their own reading. We all took a collective pause recently and that assisted the shift. Addressing that norm, we are pleased to talk with Brad Peirce from the Sustainability Mindshift. Brad’s firm is cultivating a new era of leadership, one whom is passionate about contributing to their environment based on regenerative business transformation, guided by systems innovation. We’re tapping into his knowledge, asking him to custom create experiential learning to deepen our firm’s continuity of personal practices and systems innovation. We share the goal to accelerate organizational transformation for greater scale and impact. We trust that together, we can do this before it’s too late. The beginning might be to peer into our own individual ecological footprint and have a self-affirming conversation.

Brad is Chief Transformation Officer for Sustainability Mindshift and Principal/Founder of SEED Strategies. He has worked in the field of global sustainability for over 25 years, both as an international consultant and corporate practitioner; advising companies, nonprofits, and communities to design and catalyze sustainability solutions. He is focused on the people side of sustainability; helping clients bring their sustainability strategies to life by working with their leaders and teams to develop the mindsets and skills that are necessary for facilitating sustainable and regenerative change. He brings a broad spectrum of sustainability experience from strategic planning to tactical design and implementation, program management, employee and stakeholder engagement, communications, training, and leadership development. Brad earned a Master’s degree in Sustainable Business from The George Washington University and a BA from Vanderbilt University.
We close this session with this thought: With 70-80% of the world’s population expected to live in cities by 2050, smart urban planning and development strategies are crucial to managing our resources.
