In episode 33, Ian and Frankie talk with Dr. Brad White, from Precision Animal Solutions to discuss their project with Eseye to create an IoT device to monitor cattle behaviour and identify early signs of respiratory disease.
The solution involves using ear tags with embedded electronics to collect data on activity, social behaviour, and areas of interest. The data is then analysed using machine learning algorithms to identify sick cattle. The technology aims to improve cattle health, welfare, and resource conservation in the beef production industry. The solution has the potential to benefit producers, consumers, distributors, and the overall value chain. The accuracy of the system in identifying sick cattle is a key focus, with the goal of achieving 85-95% accuracy. The project is still in the testing phase and is expected to be commercially available in 2025.
Dr. Brad White is a veterinarian focused on beef cattle health. He is co-founder and works with his partners in Precision Animal Solutions on the Remote Early Disease Identification (REDI) system for cattle. He also is currently a professor at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
