In the last episode, we discussed the First Intermediate Period and the rise of the Middle Kingdom. We ended with the last king of the 11th Dynasty, Mentuhotep IV. His vizier, Amenemhet I, with the backing of 10,000 soldiers, appeared to have overthrown his rule. Establishing the 12th Dynasty, Amenemhet would lay the foundations for a golden age of Egypt that would last for over 200 years.
