🔴 Exploring the history of race in higher education and the relentless fight for equality and access to education for all.
Hey Family,
Did you know that for centuries, higher education was reserved primarily for wealthy white men, with minority groups facing incredible challenges and legal barriers?
Despite these challenges, marginalized communities showed incredible determination and persistence, fighting for equal opportunities in education.
In this episode, I unpack my thoughts on the history of race in higher education and share some ideas on how we can work together to create change.
Main themes include:
1️⃣ The exclusive origins of higher education: Limited access for minority groups in the early days.
2️⃣ The birth and impact of HBCUs: Pioneering institutions that provided opportunities for Black students.
3️⃣ Landmark legislation: Legal milestones that helped break down barriers in higher education.
4️⃣ Addressing achievement gaps: The struggle to ensure equal opportunities and success for all students.
5️⃣ Creating a more inclusive future: Strategies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
I would love for you to share your thoughts in hopes we can be in a dialogue on how we can be and do better.
Talk soon.
Much Love,
Dr. Jae
