I think you could probably go back and track the stages of grief, probably that is what I went through. But I think if you do it right, you end up at acceptance. And that's where I ended up. And that's not to say that I've fully accepted the idea that the golden toad is extinct. Personally, I do still hold out hope that it could still be out there in those forests." - Trevor Ritland This conversation is with Trevor Ritland, who—along with his twin brother Kyle—authored The Golden Toad . The book chronicles their remarkable journey into Costa Rica’s cloud forest, once home to hundreds of brilliant golden toads that would emerge for just a few weeks each year—until, one day, they vanished without a trace. What began as a search for a lost species soon became something much more profound: a confrontation with ecological grief, a meditation on hope, and a powerful call to protect the natural world while we still can. What if creativity isn’t about doing more — but about trusting the seasons of your life? This week on the Embodied Podcast, I sat down with East Coast musician Christina Martin for a heartfelt conversation about music, healing, and the courage to trust yourself. Christina’s creative journey isn’t linear — and that’s what makes it inspiring. Growing up on the windswept coast of Nova Scotia, she learned early to navigate loss, trauma, and the slow work of rebuilding trust. Trust the slow season Looking back now, she sees creativity as a cycle — one that requires rest, reflection, and space. “There were times I felt guilty for not having the energy to keep doing, doing, doing,” Christina shared. “But looking back, I see now — when the call comes, you’re fueled. And when you follow that, it’s a pretty cool ride.” This is what we explored together — letting go, trusting the quiet seasons, and allowing healing to happen in your own time.Healing happens in relationship Christina shared openly about her process as an artist — and as a woman learning to trust herself again after loss and betrayal. Over time, supportive relationships helped her heal and rebuild trust — with herself, her creativity, and with others. “It was a big thing for me... when I start to feel this sense of I don’t want to hurt somebody or maybe my feelings aren’t valid... It's because my body is still remembering a bit of this pain. It’s trying to protect itself.” Less is more We also talked about letting go of perfectionism in creative work — making space for joy, presence, and connection. “Less is more has proven to bring more joy, more meaningful work, more room for just creativity and thoughts.” Trust your pace This episode is a beautiful invitation to slow down — to trust your body, your inner pace, and the cycles of creativity that move through your life. When we give ourselves permission to rest, to reflect, and to trust the call when it comes — we open ourselves to a life that feels more true. In this inspiring episode of the Embodied podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Nancy Regan, a figure renowned for her vibrant career as a TV host and her transformative work as an author and presentation coach. Nancy, in a moment of profound reflection, shared, "I had to be willing to show up as I was, not as I thought I should be," encapsulating the essence of our discussion on the power of authenticity, the courage to be vulnerable, and the magic of personal transformation. Nancy shares her journey from a polished television persona to embracing her true self, a path marked by challenges, revelations, and personal growth. Her insights are particularly poignant following our recent retreat in Kauai , where we experienced transformative healing and deepened our long-standing friendship. Lessons learned from our podcast conversation: Being present is key to authenticity: The importance of presence, not just on stage or in front of a camera, but in every aspect of life, was a major focus of our conversation. Nancy shares how being present has allowed her to connect more deeply with herself and others, moving beyond the façade often required in her past roles. The healing power of shared stories: Both Nancy and I advocate for the therapeutic power of sharing stories. Nancy’s stories about overcoming fear and embracing her authentic self offer listeners a roadmap for navigating their paths toward self-acceptance. Self-trust is essential for growth: A recurrent theme is the necessity of trust—not only in others but, most importantly, in oneself. This trust is crucial for personal growth and for navigating the journey from fear to authenticity. The power of authenticity Nancy’s career on the Atlantic's Live at 5, coupled with her experiences interviewing icons like Oprah and Madonna, positioned her as a confident, unflappable host. Yet, beneath the surface, she battled imposter syndrome and a fear of vulnerability—feelings many of us can relate to. Her book, From Showing Off to Showing Up , explores these themes, revealing the liberating power of showing up as one's authentic self. A path toward healing Reflecting on our recent experiences in Kauai, where the energy of the place and the practices we engaged in offered profound personal insights and emotional release, illustrates how physical spaces and mindfulness practices can be instrumental in our healing journeys. Nancy’s journey encourages us all to drop our masks, embrace our imperfections, and show up fully in every moment. For those looking to dive deeper into these lessons, Nancy’s book provides a compelling extension of the wisdom shared in this heartfelt conversation. You can also follow her television show, Showing Up With Nancy Regan . And for anyone on a similar path, remember, the journey to authenticity is not only about discovering oneself but also about the courage to be truly seen.…

How do you build trust in a world that often feels divided? In this episode of Embodied , I chat with Bhaskar Goswami , a transformation mentor, about trust, intuition, and belonging. Bhaskar’s journey takes him from his yogic roots in Assam, India, through an international engineering career, and ultimately into transformational coaching. He shares how reclaiming personal agency can ease anxiety and foster authenticity. "What unites is true, and what divides is not." This simple yet powerful statement from Bhaskar resonated deeply with me and set the tone for our conversation. In our hour-long conversation, we explore: Trusting your intuition : How listening to your inner wisdom can guide decision-making and foster self-confidence. The need to belong : Why we seek connection and how shifting our mindset can empower us. Claiming personal power : The role of ownership and responsibility in overcoming anxiety and uncertainty. Discerning truth : Practical strategies for staying grounded amidst conflicting information and perspectives. Bringing joy and playfulness into life : How letting go of seriousness can open new pathways for growth. For Bhaskar, reclaiming personal power means focusing on "what is mine to do"—letting go of what we cannot control and stepping fully into the present moment with clarity and intention. He explains that anxiety often stems from feeling powerless, and by directing our energy into meaningful action, we can replace uncertainty with confidence and purpose. His insights remind us that trusting ourselves and others doesn't mean handing over our power—it’s about standing firm in who we are while extending acceptance and belonging to those around us. In this episode of Embodied, Fire Captain Mike Sears shares his journey from trauma to healing, showing first responders how trust and resilience can transform their lives. How do we begin to trust ourselves when life demands we suppress our emotions? This question is at the heart of my conversation with Mike Sears, a Halifax Fire Captain, peer support advocate, and founder of Fight4Life . A firefighter for over two decades, Mike shares his journey of reconnecting with his body after emotional numbness, offering profound lessons in trust, healing, and transformation. On Embodied , Mike talks about navigating the intense demands of firefighting, where vulnerability often takes a backseat to survival. After a breaking point left him physically and emotionally drained, he attended the BC Firefighter Resiliency Program , where he processed years of stored trauma and rediscovered what he calls a sense of “body calm.” In our conversation, we explore: How suppressed emotions manifest in the body as physical symptoms. The courage it takes to step back and prioritize healing. Why vulnerability can be a profound strength, even in high-stakes professions. How reconnecting with sensitivity transforms not only individuals but entire communities. Mike’s story powerfully reminds us that healing begins when we allow ourselves to feel. “If you’re asking whether you need help, you’ve probably needed it for a while,” he reflected.
