In Luke 14, we encounter Jesus' challenging words about the cost of discipleship. He invites us to 'hate' our families and even our own lives in comparison to our love for Him. This stark language isn't meant to be taken literally, but rather to emphasize the supreme loyalty required to follow Christ. Jesus wants us to count the cost before committing to discipleship, much like someone planning to build a tower or a king considering war.
