How to Productively Use Fear of the Future
Manage episode 382006605 series 3525926
Impending doom. Upcoming disaster. Whether it's takeover by a Super AI overlord, disaster from weapons of mass destruction, dangerous depletion of the earth's ability to sustain our lifestyles. our complex economic or social systems spinning out of control, there are plenty of potential ways our lives could be dramatically upended. And it's natural to fear such threats. When we're afraid, we're vulnerable. "Fear is the mind killer." That's the Bene Gesserit mantra in Frank Herbert's Dune universe. It's true in this universe too. When we are fearful, we're vulnerable to flaws in our thinking and our decision making. Our agency, our personal power, depends upon the productive use of the energy generated from fear. In this podcast, we explore not only potential threats, but how we can best perceive them and, most critically, channel our energy. We use a decision matrix to determine what changes in our behaviors we should prioritize. I found the thought experiment helpful. I hope you do too!
