Hikers Find Dead Body in Tent: The ‘Mostly Harmless’ Mystery
🧳💀 Found dead in his tent with no name, two wallets, and a notebook full of code—he was called "Mostly Harmless."
Who was the hiker known only by his trail names?
🎧 Now streaming: The Mystery of the Unidentified Hiker
#TrueCrime #HikingMystery #MostlyHarmless
Back in July 2018, two hikers stumbled upon a yellow tent tucked away in Florida’s Big Cypress National Preserve—and inside was the body of a man who vanished without a trace. Emaciated to just 83 pounds, carrying thousands in cash, notebooks full of computer code, and no identification, he introduced himself to fellow trail-goers as "Mostly Harmless" or "Denim"
For nearly two years, his identity remained a mystery. Trail angels and thru-hikers reached out, but no family came forward. The hiker had walked thousands of miles along the Appalachian Trail, yet his true name stayed hidden
Finally, with advanced genetic forensics, the man behind the moniker was identified—bringing a bittersweet sense of closure to a haunting trail mystery.
In this episode, we retrace the discovery, the internet sleuthing, the identity unraveling, and the larger questions it raises about solitude, identity, and the people who cross our paths… and then disappear.
